PORTFOLIO MANAGER

Summary

The Portfolio Manager is responsible for managing client and proprietary investment portfolios to achieve defined return and risk objectives. This includes developing and executing investment strategies, conducting research and analysis, monitoring portfolio performance, managing client relationships, ensuring regulatory compliance, and supporting business development initiatives. The Portfolio Manager plays a pivotal role in preserving capital, optimizing returns, and delivering tailored investment solutions to institutional and individual investors.

Responsibilities

Portfolio Management & Strategy

  • Develop and implement customized investment strategies based on client risk appetite, time horizon, and investment objectives.
  • Monitor and rebalance portfolios to maintain alignment with strategy, asset allocation, and market dynamics.
  • Ensure optimal asset mix across equities, fixed income, alternatives, money markets, and other instruments.
  • Conduct scenario analysis and stress testing on portfolios to assess risk exposure under different economic conditions.

 

Investment Research & Analysis

  • Conduct in-depth macroeconomic, sectoral, and security-level research to support investment decisions.
  • Utilize quantitative and qualitative tools to analyze financial instruments and market trends.
  • Generate investment ideas and recommendations backed by robust data and insights.
  • Stay abreast of regulatory, political, and market developments affecting asset classes.

 

Performance Monitoring & Reporting

  • Track portfolio performance, benchmarking against appropriate indices or mandates.
  • Prepare periodic reports, fact sheets, and investment reviews for clients and internal stakeholders.
  • Analyze attribution to understand return drivers and areas of underperformance.

 

Client Relationship Management

  • Engage regularly with clients to discuss portfolio performance, market outlook, and investment recommendations.
  • Understand client needs, objectives, and constraints, and translate them into actionable investment strategies.
  • Collaborate with relationship managers, financial advisors, and the business development team to enhance client satisfaction.

 

Risk & Compliance Management

  • Ensure investment strategies and decisions are in compliance with regulatory frameworks, internal policies, and client mandates.
  • Maintain thorough documentation of investment rationale, approvals, and due diligence procedures.
  • Interface with risk and compliance teams to ensure adherence to investment guidelines and limits.

 

Team Collaboration & Thought Leadership

  • Work closely with analysts, traders, and other portfolio managers in developing strategies and sharing insights.
  • Contribute to investment committee meetings and idea generation forums.
  • Mentor junior team members and support capacity building within the investment team.

 

Business Development Support

  • Provide technical support for pitch decks, proposals, and investment advisory services.
  • Participate in prospective client meetings and assist in tailoring portfolio solutions to attract new mandates.
  • Support the launch and management of new investment products or funds.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Finance, Economics, Accounting, Mathematics or related field. Master’s Degree is an added advantage.
  • Professional certifications such as CFA, ICAN, ACCA, or FRM are highly desirable.
  • Minimum of 5–8 years’ experience in portfolio management, investment analysis, or asset management.
  • Strong understanding of capital markets, financial instruments, portfolio construction, and investment management principles.
  • Proven track record of managing portfolios and delivering risk-adjusted returns.
